  1. Hello everyone. We've been experimenting with a bit of a podcast (a few people were asking for audio versions so they can get Biographics while doing other things)! Fair warning: none of these are new biographies, but rather me having a bit more of a free form chat around the script. I'd love to know what you think, if these are useful, wanted etc :). Thanks, Simon.

  2. He ruined a gorgeous woman's life ! She died at 40 from the illnesses he caused her she is the real hero but because he is a freemason he is the one being celebrated ( the selfish idiot who cared about no one but his desires )

  3. Comparing a great writer whose crime was being gay with a vicious murderer who got away with his crime is a bit inappropriate, don’t you think?

Wilde gave much to the world by saying what others would not dare to. During his tour of North America, he described Niagara Falls as “the second great disappointment of married life.”

  4. Oscar Wilde, the Victorian-era version of Kevin Spacey.
Read the depositions from the 16-18 year old boys on how he behaved. Also, read up on him procuring a "flute-playing Arab boy" for self-confessed pederast Andre Gide.
Wilde was a loathsome individual who used his privileged status in a way that would have him just as cancelled and likely jailed today,

  5. I think he was a thoughtless ass … marrying a woman and having children.
He had talent and wit but no character.
His mother was rotten too, self absorbed and dressing him like a girl.
Strange I have heard his name soo many times and known absolutely nothing about him except some of his work.
This was very interesting, I would have liked him if he wasn't such a reckless ass having children and a wife knowing he was lying to her and himself and leaving them to fend for themselves. They were probably better off.

  6. "After the first glass of absinthe you see things as you wish they were. …After the second you see them as they are not. …Finally you see things as they really are, and that is the most horrible thing in the world"–OscarWilde

  7. I think I’ve watch the first 1/2 to 3/4 of this video nearly 15 times since it was uploaded; never once finished it. Not saying that back half was poorly produced or anything, rather that part of his life story is so devoid of beauty, that it viscerally annoys me. Wether you are an influential writer changing the landscape of literary discourse, or computer genius l responsible for us saving hundred of lives. It takes only moments for the public for the public you served to convict you for the crime of your identity

  8. I consider him one of the greatest writers ever born. You should see the movie based on his life called Wilde 1997, starring Stephen Fry as Oscar Wilde. Jude Law portrays Lord Alfred Douglas.

My late grandfather sung praises for Oscar Wilde, notably his The Picture Of Dorian Gray both book and film. I miss my grandfather who introduced me to the works of some of the greatest authors: Jules Verne, H.G. Wells and W. Somerset Maugham.

  9. The saddest reality is that he was gay and due to pathetic religious dogma his live was destroyed. That is the most cruel part of his story. Ok, he was gay, so what. What a terrible world we live in.

  10. would be curious to know how much practice it took for YOU to perfect your jerky head-twisting mannered style of speaking RIGHT UP…into the camera while talking ABOUT the person we are actually interested in. after a while your head becomes hopelessly intrusive, then annoying and I must quit..

  11. We look back and think that those laws are dumb or prejudice but it does kind of make sense to a degree. One life style is healthy and bares fruit and the other isn't and doesn't. Being homosexual could put you on the Anarchist side of the political scale. Maybe this is why the law has often set penalties for being homosexual. No babies, no kids, no families, no country. Like Oscar many homosexuals aren't very patriotic and don't feel a need for peers. But this may be a consequence of the laws against them. I am personally in favor of equal rights for all but know that legislative power comes from legislating. I believe we should lean more toward conservative libertarianism where the governments' prerogative would be fiscal responsibility and liberty mindedness, guaranteeing liberty to both local governments to govern themselves and each citizen to govern themselves to the point of not affecting others or society. So, you're free to do what you want as long as it doesn't affect other people or their commitments. Adultery laws may have remained constant though the years because of similar thinking. Calling everything racist or homophobic might not be the best way to keep extreme versions of these laws from re-emergence. I don't know what we should do at the same time. Get our citizens from other countries? But again, if we do that then eventually we won't have a country. We'll have abunch of tribes or a slave nation ruled by a police state type government. I actually believe this might be the new form of government that we are headed toward, basically a government ran by people like Oscar Wilde, people that think they are better than everyone else and who are wildly inappropriate and inconsiderate. Flaming people that think the world should revolve around them. Full of ego with very little resolve. No loyalty but to themselves. Ego maniacs.
